That’s why we’re proud to announce our first Toreon Cybersecurity Café!

You’re invited to join us for an evening at our HQ in Antwerp on February 2, 2023, to meet experts and ask them anything cybersecurity. But that’s not all! Guest speaker Dries Depoorter will combine his knowledge of technology with a healthy dose of humor. The icing on the cyber-cake? Cybersecurity Personality of 2022 (and CTO of Toreon) Sebastien Deleersnyder will speak on navigating the journey to becoming a cybersecurity professional. It’s an evening packed with Cybersecurity!

Dries Depoorter is a Belgian artist working with technology. His catchy and humorous work addresses themes such as privacy, social media, artificial intelligence and surveillance. Among his creations are several products such as apps, games and interactive installations. He studied electronics for six years before making the switch to art school. Today Dries Depoorter is exhibiting and holding talks internationally while working as a freelance concept provider that focuses on digital processes.

Dries exhibited at the Barbican London, Art Basel, Mutek Festival Montreal, Bozar, Para Site Hong Kong, Mozilla The Glass Room San Francisco, IDFA Doclab, Mundaneum. FOMU, Ars Electronica, NRW, World Press Photo, WIRED25, HEK.

Dries did talks for TEDx, MoMA, SXSW, Chanel, Adidas, Mutek Festival, STRP festival, Dutch Design Week and web2day.

Topic of discussion: Surveillance art, Dying Phones and Fake Likes. Sounds promising!

Sebastien Deleersnyder, CTO of Toreon, and the COO of Data Protection Institute, has an extensive track record in the cybersecurity sector that spans over 20 years. With a background in development and many years of experience in security, he has trained countless developers to create software more securely.

Aside from his duties at Toreon and Data Protection Institute, Sebastien also created the Belgian Chapter of OWASP, co-founded BruCON, and co-organized the Cyber Security Challenge Belgium. Currently, Sebastien is adapting application security models to the evolving field of DevOps and is also focused on bringing Threat Modeling to a wider audience.

Recently, Sebastien Deleersnyder was named the Cybersecurity Personality of 2022, further cementing his place in the world of  cybersecurity.

During his talk, Sebastien will discuss how individuals from diverse backgrounds can break into the cybersecurity industry and build successful careers. He will emphasize the need for technical proficiency, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills along with an overview of the steps to becoming a cybersecurity professional, including the importance of earning a degree, gaining practical experience, obtaining industry certifications, staying current with industry trends, and building a strong network of professionals.
