Cyber Café, powered by Toreon & Data protection Insitute

It’s time to get excited once again and mark February 5th in your calendar, as we’re thrilled to announce the fourth edition of our Cyber Café!

Founded in 2013, Toreon has established itself as a leading force in the cybersecurity industry, safeguarding clients worldwide and sharing invaluable insights along the way. As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a strong cybersecurity community, the Cyber Café was brought to life.

Relive the first edition:

An evening packed with cybersecurity discussions

Just like the last edition, we’re excited to welcome you to ‘Maneblussers City’ at Malinas Park in Mechelen. Our doors will open at 17:30.

This edition of the Cyber Café will focus heavily on Incident Management, a topic that has gained significant traction over the past few years. As is tradition, we have two exciting speakers lined up who are eager to share their experiences with you during this event.

First, we have Bart Asnot, National Security Officer at Microsoft Belgium, who will provide an overview of the current threat landscape. He will walk us through real-world examples of successful cyberattacks on Belgian organizations, detailing each phase from initial breach to final impact.

Our second speaker is Arwi van der Sluijs, Founder and Managing Director at NFIR, whose talk is all about resilience and incident management. What is the impact of a cyber incident? What can you learn from it, and what are the next steps to improve your cybersecurity posture? With over 500 cyber incidents under his belt, Arwi is eager to explain it all!

We’ll wrap up the day with an evening café, offering everyone the chance to network and connect with our speakers and Toreonites, all while enjoying plenty of food and beverages, of course!

Bart Asnot

Cyberthreat landscape and incidents

During this talk, Bart Asnot will explain the current threat landscape through the view of Microsoft combined with some real-world use cases on successful cyberattacks in Belgium from initial access to impact. Bart will also share some best practices on how Microsoft has supported and advised their customers during and after the incident.

As an industry-focused cybersecurity expert, Bart has supported companies and organizations across the world. Starting his career as a technical consultant in IT, Bart transitioned into cybersecurity several years ago by combining deep tech knowledge with strategy as cybersecurity is as much a tech play as it has its place in the board room. Today, Bart is National Security Officer in Microsoft Belgium and leading the Cybersecurity architects supporting the organizations in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Arwi

Resilience and Incident Management

Arwi van der Sluijs, Founder and Managing Director of NFIR, will delve into the critical topic of resilience and incident management. With over 500 cyber incidents managed, Arwi will share his expertise on the real-world impact of cyberattacks, the key lessons learned from these events, and the actionable steps organizations can take to enhance their cybersecurity posture moving forward.

Arwi’s extensive experience spans his previous roles at Canon, KPN, and Ordina, as well as his leadership in founding Digital Investigation and NFIR. His unique combination of technical knowledge and strategic insight allows him to guide organizations through the complexities of cyber incident response, focusing on not only recovering from incidents but also building resilience to future threats.
